The St. Joseph’s hospital Urmi, Gumla was established in 2004 with the clear vision to render whole hearted service in the field of health care to the poor, sick and the suffering humanity. This healing ministry being the prime motto of the congregation, the words of Jesus "as long as you did to the least of my brethren you did it to me", meaning thereby whatsoever good you do the needy specially ailing humanity - you do it for God Himself, we move ahead to treat and heal.

It was the deep desire of Servant of God Joseph C. Panjikaran, the founder of medical sisters of St. Joseph to reach out to the poor and marginalized with a goal to touch the humanity.

The School of Nursing, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Urmi, Gumla is owned and administered by the congregation of The Medical Sisters of St. Joseph, Little Flower Province, Lucknow. The Nursing School offers a course in General Nursing and Midwifery recognized by the Jharkhand nurses Registration Council (Letter No. -188 JNRC Dated 25/06/2010) and Indian Nursing Council (File No.- 18-36/6612 INC Dated 18/02/2011) The duration of the course is three years and the medium of instruction is English.
